My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This beautiful, heartbreaking, hopeful hybrid of advice and memoir had me from the start.
Written by Cheryl Strayed, whose memoir Wild became a bestseller and a movie, it shouldn't be surprising that her advice is steeped in stories of her own life. It's as much memoir as advice, and maybe quite a bit more on the memoir side.
There were a couple of places where I wasn't as interested, that she lost me for a moment. I simply skipped to the next chapter and sailed on.
That's one of the nice things about a book like this, you don't have to read all the chapters and you can set it aside to pick up much later without skipping a beat. If you get more than one book going at a time and tend to randomly dip in and out of them (guilty!) or don't often have time to read, this book can await for you're ready to return to start a new chapter, where you'll encounter an entirely new story of the advice sought and given, enveloped in a tale of Strayed's own life.
